For more than 40 years, I have worked at the University of Maryland and with all types of colleges and universities to advance purposeful learning, community engagement, and student success. My current scholarship and practice lie primarily in two areas. I focus on high-impact educational practices and all forms of experiential learning, with an emphasis on critical reflection, service-learning, civic and community engagement, and the on- and off-campus partnerships that underlie this work. In addition, my work centers on the educational experience of the 85% of college students who are variously known as commuter, nontraditional, and adult students.
